‘‘21stCentury Maternity Nursing.“

Maternity nursing in the 21stcentury is entirelydifferent from how it was carried out in the past centuries. Thepaper aims at describing nursing in the 21stcentury by highlighting how advanced it is when compared to the othertimes.

Maternity nursing entails taking care of thepregnant mother just before they give birth and immediately afterdelivery. Maternity nursing has developed in the 21stcentury compared to the other timessince infant mortality rate has fallen(Klossner, 2006). Most babies andtheir mothers survive today since the nurses provide better care thanin the past. Firstly, the nurses advise the mother on what to takeand what to avoid during pregnancy. This advanced monitoring ofgestationis necessaryfor preventingchild complications after birth since there are some foods which areharmful.

Just after birth, the child isprovided with vitamin K as wellas hepatitis B vaccine in the 21stcentury unlike in the past(Lynna, 2012). It is an importantnursing technique since it determines the future health of theinfant. So as to ensure that the baby is well, its weight is alsonoted just after birth. It is important since it helps the nurse toadvisethe mother on how often to breastfeed the newborn.

In conclusion, health reforms in the 21stcentury also aim at improving maternity care. Itis the reason why the nurses willeven have to observe the infants temperature after birth today.Usually, the child’stemperature ranges between 98°to 99° F few hours after birth. It is important to note it hourlyafter birth so as to ensure that it ismaintainedat normality.
