Thebest approach for reducing poverty in children from low-incomefamilies in America is believed to giving them an education. Thepeople who have attained high achievement in education and moreschooling years tend to earn more than those with lower education.There is a common perception that if children are given a healthylearning environment, they are likely to become the most productivein the labor market (Hollar et al., 2010).

Inthe modern America, children who are disadvantaged face variouschallenges as a result of educational outcomes that are adverse. Forinstance, the disadvantaged are not eligible for free lunch. Thisbrings about the differences in the results or performance of thesechildren. Research indicates that white children perform better thanminority races (Brian, 2008).This paper is focusing on the solutionto the challenges as a way of making education for low-income earnersbetter.

EducationChallenges Facing Children from Low Income Families in America

Schoolsthat the minority and poor students attend are characterized by thelack of resources, like teachers, support services, and textbooks.They also lack the ability to improve the learning of studentsprimarily because they lack financial aid to improve instruction inteaching staff. They lack flexibility and teachers fail to implementnew ideas because of lack of knowledge or centralized authority. Theschools with feeding programs have poor feeding and nutritionprograms which lead to increased cases of obesity which is a healthrisk to these children (Hollar et al., 2010).

Solutionsfor Improving Education for Low-income Children in America

Theearly years of a child are critical especially when it comes toeducation. It is, therefore, important to intervene at this stage ofespecially for children from the poor background. One of thesolutions that have been proposed is the allocation of more funds tosupport education programs for these children because despite beingexpensive, the economic gains for the programs exceed their costs(Jacob &amp Ludwig, 2008).

Reductionof class size is another solution as it will enable the teachers tospend more time with these children especially those in elementarylevel. It is also an effective solution as it will facilitatetailored instructions to match the needs of children. This will makeit easier for the teacher to monitor classroom behavior.

Motivatingthe teachers in several ways like, awarding them a bonus for teachingschools that have high needs or subjects. The introduction of thelabor market is also a way of motivating the teachers as the mostproductive ones will be given the bonus and paid a higher salary. Ifthe children who are disadvantaged are taught by teachers who aremost efficient and the best, it becomes easy to narrow schoolingdisparities (Jacob &amp Ludwig, 2008).

Changingschool practices. Though this approach is expensive, if the ways inwhich the schools are organized like in delivering instruction, it iseasy to improve the achievement of the student with additionalresources.

Providinginterventions in the curricular and instruction is another viablesolution. A good example is introducing education software programwhich brings great impacts on learning of students despite theirgrowth (Jacob &amp Ludwig, 2008).

Anintervention program that is school-based for eating and exercising,making changes to meals provided in schools and introducing educationfor a healthy lifestyle. This should be particularly focused onchildren in the elementary stage as they are the most affected. Ifthe health of these children is catered from a young age especiallyin their feeding habits, their performance in school is likely toimprove as evidenced by most researchers conducted ( Hollar et al.,2010).
