Motivationis the external and internal drive that influences on employees’choices and behavior. A motivation strategy is a planned guidelinethat seeks to improve the employees’ contribution in a workplace.Employee motivation is a vital aspect in the line of attaining anefficient management practice (Lăzăroiu, 2015). Motivationalstrategies such as empowering workers, redesigning jobs andimplementing reward programs ensure that employees are appreciated inan organizational set up.
Employeesare motivated by a range of activities that include strongculture of work environment, the engagement in the appropriate careerand work involvement.Additionally, employees draw their motivation from availableopportunities to grow and may include the forums with which personnellearn new skills (Lăzăroiu, 2015). An environment that fosterscooperation can also be a source of peer motivation to theirco-workers hence leading to successes as teams.
Empoweringemployees is one of the best tools that managements can adopt asmotivation strategies. When employees are empowered through beinggiven authority, autonomy, trust and encouragement, they accomplishtheir tasks effectively and in a responsible way. Additionally,instilling a policy of corporate entrepreneurship enables andencourages employees to come up with ideas, which are then presentedto the management for implementation.
Involvingindividuals in the reward system is a crucial aspect as it reinforcesthe behaviors of employees. Rewards serve as positiveacknowledgements of the value that an individual accomplished.Rewards can be extrinsic (derived from an external source, forexample awards from top managers) or intrinsic (areself-administered, for example, personal development after achievinga task). Involving employees in the reward system demonstrate thatworkers’ are valued and encourage repetition of the goodperformance.In addition to good wages, promotion and job security, effectivemanagement goes an extra mile in appreciating and sympathizing withtheir personnel.
Alternativework schedules are an important motivational strategy as it breaksthe monotony of the everyday activity that an employee handles.Depending on the scope and depth of the job, there are importantstrategies that may serve as a tool for enhancing alternative workschedules .These measures may include job enlargement so as toincrease the size and diversity of available jobs, cross trainingpersonnel through work rotation and enrichment of employees throughassigning of different roles, increasing their tasks and delegatingmore authority (Kizer,2016).
Inconclusion, motivational strategy is a significant step that anorganization can adopt to ensure improved output. The strategy guidesthe management through the procedures and ways in which to handleemployees in the work environment.
