Highsodium content food leads to a condition known as high bloodpressure also referred to as hypertension. Hypertension is acondition whereby blood exerts too much pressure on the arteries.This may lead to heart disease and other conditions.

Accordingto statistics conducted by the World Health Organization (2002), 70million of the adult populations in the U.S have high blood pressure.This represents approximately 30 % of the entire population. However,out of the 30%, 20 % of the condition has been caused by excessivesodium intake in their diet (Yang et al. 2014). Sodium is the maincomponent in edible salts. Excessive salt intake damages the kidneydue to an imbalance in osmosis in the body. As a result, when excesssodium is ingested in the body, the kidney does not have the capacityto filter it out as waste. This imbalance results to excess fluids inthe blood vessels leading to high blood pressure condition.

Whenblood pressure reaches to levels of about 180/110 mm HG, it puts thelife of an individual at risk. Common symptoms of high blood pressureinclude headache, nausea, vomiting, blurred vision, dizziness,frequent nose bleeding, and dyspnea.

Whenthe condition is not controlled in time, it may lead to a risk ofbrain damage, since the brain does not receive adequate bloodcirculation for its functioning. Hypertension may also lead tochronic heart diseases such as coronary heart disease, heart failureand enlarged left heart disease. The listed conditions may arisebecause the heart is exerting too much pressure during bloodcirculation. Besides this, it may also lead to heart attack amountingto the death of a patient (Aaron &amp Sanders, 2013).

Withthe increased rate at which people are consuming raw salts, they areat a high risk of exposure to high blood pressure. Over the pastcentury, the risk of exposure has increased annually by 10%. It isproven that foods such as deli meat, vegetable juices, canned soup,canned tomato products, frozen pizza, and other fast foods have ahigh sodium concentration.

Unal,&amp Yilmaz (2014) state that to reduce the risk of hypertensionpeople should avoid adding salt while cooking or eating. One maysubstitute salt intake with limejuice, ginger, chili, or lemon. Ifneed be, one should consume less than 0.3 g of salt in every 100g offood. To know of the salt level in packed foods, it is alsorecommended to read the package of food before consuming it. Inaddition, it is quite preferable to avoid taking fast foods and optto prepare your meals. This way, one can control his or her saltintake. Foods such as lean protein, fruits and raw vegetables,low-fat dairy products and whole grains are a good remedy to lowerrisk of excess sodium intake (Unal, &amp Yilmaz, 2014).

Failingto adhere to the above recommendations puts all the people at risk.From an individual perspective, it sets one’s life at risk. To thenation perspective, it puts the government at the financial strain. Areport compiled by the World Health organization (2002) shows that,the U.S government spends approximately 46 billion dollars annuallyin attending to high blood pressure patients. However, when cautionis taken, the government will be able to save 18 billion dollarspeople annually. It will also reduce mortality rate especially amongthe adult population.

Besidestaking low amounts of sodium and taking healthy food diet, it is alsoadvisable for people to make frequent visits to medical camps andhospitals to know of their blood pressure conditions. This should bemade a routine after every two years so that in case one is at risk,he or she may take caution when the condition can be controlled.Taking caution against high blood pressure will help save livesacross the globe since prevention is better than cure.
