The period led to the authors adopting various stylessuch as incorporating emotions, imaginations, nature and individualheroism in their writings. Most of the authors developed featuresthat were in contrast to the previous Age of Enlightenment that hadinsisted on scientific facts. In fact, they believed that truthrelied on logic as well as reason that explained every concept.However, the Romantics believed that nature still had a way ofshowing the truth, and that showed why their writings stressed on thesurrounding mostly. The use of imaginations was also more widespreadsince they used the technique to illustrate the perfect world thatthey wanted. In the process, they also attached emotions in most ofthe writings to reveal how different people felt based on variousevents such as romance, break-ups, birth or even death of a person.This essay will explain how introduced features such asnature, emotions, imaginations as well as individual heroism inliterature.

The period also saw the authors incorporating more imaginations intheir writings instead. For instance, some of the poems explored theunconscious minds where they evaluated various issues that dealt withthe human life. Some of them focused on dreams and reveries that theyused in looking at other critical themes as well. In this case, mostof the writers used imagination to create various pieces ofliterature content. In fact, the Age of Enlightenment saw the peoplerelying on reason and the scientific evidence to explain multiplecomplex concepts. People had sought science to provide answers todifferent topics in the universe. Instead, the Romantics knew thatthe natural world also presented truth to multiple problems in thesociety. Hence, they revealed different themes that captured theirimaginations as opposed to the facts and logic as well. One of thepoets during that time such as Samuel Taylor Coleridge is some of thepeople that used imagination in their poems. For instance, Coleridgeused the same approach in his poem “Frost at Midnight” thattalked about the interaction of his daughter and nature(Hadzigeorgiou &amp Roland, 1970). In this poem, Coleridge usesdetailed images in illustrating how the child was moving along theshores and mountains. More important, the entire poem captures hisimaginations since he wants to create a world that is appealing andpresentable. Perhaps, it was just a way to reveal how they expect theworld to operate than it was doing at that particular time.

Most of the pieces of literature during the Romantic Period werecharacterized by the emotions that did not consider facts or even anylogic. For instance, Robert Burns is one of the people that wrotevarious poems that portrayed feelings on different concepts such asromance. Most of their content came straight from the heart, and theyshowed how they thought about other issues such as the death, love orbirth. William Shakespeare is one of the writers that incorporatedemotions in his poetry at that time. More important, his sonnets hadplenty of inner musings as he explored romantic relationships. In theprocess, he highlighted the love, heartbreaks, struggle and povertythat also captured the feelings that people had (Hadzigeorgiou &ampRoland, 1974). Shakespeare also talked about the memories that hecould be remembered once he is gone. Hence, it was a common scenarioto find Shakespeare’s work reminiscing on the future where he willbe dead, and people will be talking about him. He even thought abouta son that will inherit his experience and skills. All in all, theartistic movement often insisted on the issues that were more aboutthe emotions as opposed to the reason and scientific observation thatthe writers in the eighteen century had adopted. More important,their inner feelings were a common theme that reflected on otherissues in the society that were more common instead.

In this case, whileother authors had placed their trust on logic and scientific facts,the ones in the Romantic period believed that nature also had itshealing powers. Besides that, they also knew that it could serve as asubject that they can use to in showing the negative impact ofcivilization that others were suggesting. Instead, they stressed onthe organic perspective that considered the essence of nature onearth. Their literature was another way of criticizing the newscientific and mechanical approach that other authors had suggestedearlier. They defined the technique as one that is rational, but,destructive as well. Hence, stressing on nature was an important wayof increasing the awareness on the benefits that might arise fromsuch relationships. More important, the Romantics also describednature precisely and accurately in order to capture every aspect thatthey wanted.

Previously, theneoclassical drama had already introduced the concept of heroes, but,the Romantics wanted to capture a new aspect of it (Hadzigeorgiou &ampRoland, 1995). For instance, the neoclassical had stressed on thedesire for opposing certain rules. On the other hand, the Romanticsassociated their heroes with boldness and they wanted them toexperiment various issues. In fact, Shakespeare created differentpieces that stressed on each person living based on a particularsystem that they had created. They even ignored any philosophy orreligious ideologies instead. The ideology of individualism alsointeracted with capitalism that urged people to ignore the communalownership. It discouraged the idea of only a handful of churchleaders and the aristocrats owning a vast range of wealth. The periodalso paved the way for the industrial revolution where every workerwas paid based on their individual output. Hence, the age facilitatedthe idea of individualism in nearly every aspect of the economy, andthe literature was not left behind instead.

In conclusion, represents a period that paved the way forthe imaginations, emotions as well as nature and individualism aswell. In this case, the authors had deviated from the Age ofEnlightenment that stressed on logic and reason. Instead, theyrejected the rationalism since they believed that nature had theability to describe various complex concepts in the society too. Inthe process, they even incorporated imaginations into their writingssince they wanted to create a world that was somehow more interestingand did not have some of the consequences associated with thecivilization. The way that the authors also introduce the aspect ofnature also showed that the scientific facts are not the only onesthat defined truth. Lastly, the concept of the individual heroism wasalso more common during that particular period, and it showed howpeople strived to shape their lives instead.
