BaltimoreCounty Public Schools prepare students to be creative, smart,productive, and law-abiding citizens through the provision of a rangeof educational opportunities (Woodley&amp Abbott, 2016, p. 5).Cooperation and support among students, school staff, and parentsguarantee that the fulfillment of all the career, social, academic,and emotional requirements of students are met. Thus, the Codeof Student Conducthelps to bring a sense of discipline among the students while theyare on the property of the school (Woodley&amp Abbott, 2016, p. 14).The Board of Education Policy 5550 on Disruptive Behavior sets up thestandard for student behavior and the associated disciplinarymeasures for the violation of those regulations. The Administratorsare allowed to appraise and assess various situations beforedetermining the type of intervention or support to administer to astudent. The Baltimore County Public Schools policy reveals that theprocess of executing short-term and long-term suspensions is similarit is also consistent with Goss vs. Lopez.

Thedue process of implementing either a long or short-term suspension inBaltimore County Public Schools follows the Goss vs. Lopez statute. Ashort suspension constitutes the removal of a student from school fora period that is equal to but does not exceed three academic days fordisciplinary purposes by the principal (Woodley&amp Abbott, 2016, p. 20).A long-term suspension, conversely, is the exclusion of a learnerfrom school for a four to ten-day period for corrective reasons bythe superintendent or the principal. The Ohio Revised Code (3313.66)allows the administrators or directors to suspend students fromschool for a duration of not more than ten days (LegalInformation Institute, 2016). Thus, the BaltimoreCounty Public Schools’ suspension policy is in tandem with the Gossvs. Lopez statute.

Studentsalso receive a chance to be heard before they are suspended. Theschool’s due process stipulates that before any student issuspended, he or she will be given a written or oral notice (Woodley&amp Abbott, 2016, p. 20).The report highlights the charges that have been leveled against thestudent, the conduct that resulted in the prosecution, and thestudent behavior code offense(s). If a learner disputes the chargesthat have been brought against him, he will be furnished with theevidence that supports the accusation and afforded the chance topresent his or her account.
