The controversy about Human Cloning

Thecontroversy about Human Cloning

Cloningis the process through which genetic materials from one organism aretaken to create an identical copy artificially. Therefore, humancloning implies that genes from one person can be made to createanother identical person or several identical people. Cloning hasbeen done with animals successfully, and researchers as well asscientists, believe that humans too can be cloned. Human cloning isone the most relevant ethical debates. If human cloning is madepossible, then the entire world is likely to change for the better orworse because of the advantages and demerits that will accompanycloning of people. The primary purpose of this essay is to criticallyanalyze the merits as well as the demerits of human cloning. Besides, the paper will give evidence for the support for or against humancloning.

TheAdvantages and Disadvantages of Human Cloning

Advantages

Humancloning is necessary because it would serve as a means that could beused to relieve infertility that some individuals are nowexperiencing (Macintosh, 2013). It implies that men and women whosesperms and ova are infertile should produce biological childrenthrough cloning. Therefore, adults who have tried every possiblemeans to reproduce would be lucky to have children who aregenetically related to them. Besides, human cloning is vital since ithelps in preventing the transmission of particular hereditarydiseases or dangerous conditions that would result if a coupleproduces offspring through the regular sexual intercourse (Bradley,2013). In this case, a couple would be in a position to avoid thirdgenes in a family that would result from sperms donation as a way oftrying to prevent unwanted characteristics that are inheritable suchas hypertension or mental illnesses that run in a family.Furthermore, human cloning would help in reducing the shortages oforgans or tissues for transplant. Human cloning enables theproduction of a clone twin that will have organs which can betransplanted quickly in case of emergency without having anyrejection in the body (Bradley, 2013). Moreover, if it is possible toclone human beings, then society would benefit a lot from theduplication of people who possess great talents, geniuses, or anyother exemplary qualities (Macintosh, 2013). It implies that peoplewith extraordinary talents would never come to an extinct. Theirskills would continue to benefit the society for an extended period. Also, human cloning would lead to a medical advancement boom. In thisregard, if the field of cloning humans becomes perfect, many otherareas of medicine will also be expanded through the research thatwould have been carried out in the cloning process. Furthermore, cloning of people is vital in prolonging the average lifespan ofindividuals (Macintosh, 2013).

Disadvantages

Humancloning would lead to the development of new diseases that can arisedue to genes mutation (Seedhouse, 2014). In some cases, genes wouldproduce unwanted results that could be devastating. Also, cloning isa way of devaluing human lives. There is a belief that people haveonly one life to live and that is why life is precious. Therefore, cloning another human from an individual who is dying is seen as adevaluation of the human life (Seedhouse, 2014). Besides, there is amoral and ethical problem of human cloning since religion maintainsthat it is only God who has the power and mandate to create life. So,human cloning would be like playing God`s role of Creation.

Istrongly support that human cloning is morally ethical and it shouldbe allowed and embraced. Resources should be dedicated in this fieldbecause of the possible advantages that it carries. First, theinfertile couples will have a chance to sire a child that isbiologically related to either person of the couple. Children thatare born through sperms or ova donations do not get the motherly lovethat a biological child would get. Therefore, human cloning is asignificant milestone that would ensure that infertile couples livehappily with their children like the productive couples. Anotherreason why I maintain that human cloning is ethical is that it canhelp in retaining good minds in the society as well as thoseindividuals with consummate talents. For example, a community cansuffer if it happens to lose a great politician through death who hasdeveloped the locality. However, if this politician happens to becloned, then this particular community will continue to enjoydevelopments. Therefore, there is nothing wrong with bringing backinfluential people as well as legendaries to society. Besides, nobodywould like to die young before accomplishing his or her goals. Humancloning can aid in prolonging the lives of people so that they canachieve their dreams. For instance, it is very unfortunate thatpeople realize their academic dreams while they are old such thatthey do not enjoy the fruits of the sacrifices that they made longbefore they die. In this regard, human cloning is useful becauseindividuals will be able to benefit from the fruits of their labor. If cloning is wrong, then such benefits would not be present.

Conclusion

Tosum up, human cloning is a controversial issue that should beaddressed carefully. Cloning has benefits as well as disadvantages. The benefits are extending the human life, retention of good brains, advancement in medicine, and organ harvesting among others. The consof human cloning are the devaluation of human lives and developmentof new diseases. The benefits are many, and as a result, cloning hasbeen proved to be ethically right.
