Ptah-HotepLeadership Advice

Ptah-Hotepwas an Egypt`s ancient highest ranking political advisor during thereign of King Isesi of the Egypt`s fifth dynasty. He is creditedwith authoring the instructions of Ptah-Hotep an early peace aimed atinstructing young people how to depict good behavior. He had a sonwho was also a top-ranking political advisor. Many scholars believethat his book was the first to be written in history. He wrote thebook to advise his people on the importance of maintaining socialorder. He gave more instruction on how to avoid arguments andmaintain self-control. He was considered the first philosopher forthe fact that he had the earliest surviving fragment of moralphilosophy. In his book, he writes the reason for writing the bookhas since he had reached an old age he wanted to pass the wisdom ofhis ancestors who had listened to the gods to the young people(Fontaine, 2013).

Ptah-Hoteppresented many instructions to his people on how to live a healthysocial life. He also gave advice to leaders. Among his teachings, there are five which I feel were paramount in leadership because theystate the real personalities of how a leader should respond to hissubject. They give leaders right governing advice towards theirpeople. If you are a ruler concerned for your ordinary citizen`ssearch for every opportunity to do good so that there may be noshortcomings of your actions (Fontaine, 2013). If you are a leader,Take responsibility in matters entrusted to you, and you willaccomplish things of note. The people bestowed with authority shouldportray patience in instances where they receive petitions. Theyshould also ensure that they do not dismiss the petitioners untiltheir complete unburdening of what they had planned to say. Theinfluential people should focus on establishing respect forthemselves through knowledge and courtesy in speech. If you shouldfunction as a proper official of the court appointed to settledisputes among the populace nature ignorance of partiality (Fontaine,2013).

Leadershipis where people give someone the power to have the authority overthem. Leaders are supposed to be the servants of the people by beingtheir masters. According to Ptah-Hotep instructions, one of themsensations about actual values of leadership. The advice was given toleaders that if one is a leader they should take responsibility tomatters entrusted to them to accomplish things in one annotation(Gray, 2012). Leaders are entitled to many responsibilities, and theyshould always be responsible for them. When things are kept undersomeone`s, watch the person should be answerable to whatever happensor does not happen to them. In modern day leadership, the leadersalways have a blame game because of leadership subdivisions.Ptah-Hotep gave the advice to discourage the leaders from blamingother people for not being responsible or things that happen undertheir watch. When leaders are not liable for their people, theyalways lose confidence and are seen as incompetent leaders (Gray,2012).

Governanceis all about being given responsibility and being responsible. Forinstance, in new day government, some leaders are given theresponsibility of being in charge of the people`s resources. Thereare many cases of corruption scandals that the individuals in powerembezzle the taxpayer`s money for their personal benefits (Gray,2012). When held responsible they always have someone to channel theblame. These elements make the people lose confidence in them and mayend up making them evacuate the office. It also indicates anelaborate example of leaders taking responsibility of whatever theywere given the authority over (Gray, 2012).

Conclusively, responsibility entails the primary concern about leadership. Allleaders should be obligated to serve their citizens. When anindividual is entrusted with authority over something it becomestheir main concern. All the values of leadership should be followedas advised by Ptah-Hotep to bring about a good relationship betweenthe leaders and the citizens (Gray, 2012).
